The picnic was at Emerald park in West Eugene.
We met Freddie in Eugene and drove to the picnic. We got there right after the food was served. It was the best BBQ buffet I've ever been to! (and the one at moms wedding last year was pretty good!) The steak was perfect, chicken was fantastic, and the sides were delicious.
Ruben won a fan playing bingo, he won a kite from the fishing booth, and he won 5 bucks in the gift grab. He had a great time in the bounce house too! We all ate several deserts, there was carrot cake and at least 4 different types of pie. There was still so much food left over people were carrying it away in togo boxes.
After the picnic we ran a few errands and went to Mom and Jeff's house. We visited and rested while Freddie took a nap, and then we dropped Fred off at a gig in Cottage Grove. All the way back to Salem Ru and I talked and sang songs. He asked me what kind of girl he should marry. I told him one that was smart, nice, and shared his sense of humor. After a moment he said "Like you mommy". I cried a little but I didn't let him see.
I got a great kid.
The highlight of the day was the electric fan Ruben won playing bingo. He carried it home on his lap reading the description over and over. He even told me about how they designed the box using a green screen to make the background and how they used a photo editing program to hide the green screen's edge. When we got home he went immediately to his room to try out his new fan. I was so relieved that it worked well. He sat in front of it for a few minutes, then started making plans for showing it off to his buddies tomorrow.
I guess he had fan envy, I have one in my window, and his new one is way nicer.
He fell asleep tonight to me reading a slightly boring book, and his fan quietly moving the air in his room around.
