Birthday and July 4

We woke up to a surprise Wednesday (July 3) morning, Mom and Jeff were home early.  We had a nice chat and I gave mom her birthday present early.  They had lovely parting gifts for us as well. Canadian maple syrup, and delicious blueberry jam.

We had a lovely top down drive up the freeway, and hurriedly unpacked the car.  We delivered ice cream invitations for later in the evening to Ru's apartment friends, and at 11:30am we picked up Ruben's best friend Bradon.

Fred and I took the boys out to lunch at 5 guys, then we went to the Kroc center.  They have 2 fun pools and a waterslide, as well as an outdoor fountain area.  The boys had a great time and Fred and I did too, in the hot tub.  After a while I snuck out and hit the treadmill for a little exercise.
By the time we left I was feeling pretty icky, but the boys had a blast.

On the way home we stopped at McDonalds for McFlurries... yum.
About 20 minutes after we arrived home Ruben got a package, it was the second half of his birthday gift. Snap circuits.   They are like electric legos, but even more fun. Fred and Ru spent the whole evening playing with them. It was fortunate for me because I went to bed I was feeling so bad.

Its a sucker that Bradon gave to Ru.
On July 4 I woke up feeling icky still so we decided to pick one room to clean, and spend the day at home. Ruben played with his snap circuits all day long! Around 7pm hunger drove us to the grocery store where we encountered a deserted store that made our weekly shopping trip a breeze.  When we got home I made some popcorn and we joined the families in the courtyard setting off legal (boring) fireworks.  There were however several people in our community who shunned the ban on airborne explosives and we saw quite the show.

At bedtime (10:30) I tucked Ru into bed and he asked me to close the door.  I saw his eyes wander to his snap circuits placed on the edge of his bed (you know a kid likes a toy if they sleep with it) Being the wise mom I am I told  him "the door stays open and you may not play with toys, if you can't sleep you may read" He knew the gig was up and rolled over and fell into slumber.

Until 3 am Friday, when he woke me up with a migraine, him not me.  We did the usual routine of cuddle, medicine, and hot bath, but fortunately this headache skipped the vomit phase.  I was still sick when I woke up this morning so I went to the doctor.  She put me on some potent antibiotics and ordered a lot of tests. Ru and Fred played with... snap circuits. Not much got done today.
