Camping at Dorena Day 2

It was a beautiful morning. After an excellent breakfast, of eggs, bacon, and pancakes, Ruben and I implemented our camping plan. The plan was to get up, eat, hike, come back to camp for lunch, then go out on the boat till dinner. So we wanted to revisit our favorite hike from last summer, and we went to Upper Trestle Creek Falls.

We parked at Lund Park campground and walked through the field of butterflies.

The trail was about a 5 mile loop all together.

Our shadows waving hello.

The water of Brice Creek is freezing cold and very clear.

A lovely section of the trail. Most of today's hike went up. Sometimes steeply.

Ruben was impressed by the tree growing out of the dead tree.

So here I am hiking the day after my foot doctor upgraded my orthotics (which I didn't wear) and wrote me a prescription for new orthotics and referred me to a sports physical therapist.
Interestingly, my feet hurt this day, but not for the rest of the camping trip.

Ruben climbs on anything he possibly can. I did my mom job and told him to be careful, then I turned away and didn't watch him. Fortunately he is very agile and didn't fall once.

The arrival at Upper Trestle Creek Falls is lovely, you come to the middle of the falls and walk behind it. Then you go around and have to climb a steep path to get to the base.

I soaked my sore feet in the water for a while, it was painfully cold. Ruben and I had a snack of trail mix and jerky, then continued on the path.

Taking a break on the long walk back. It seemed like a long walk, by the time we got to the last half mile we weren't chatting anymore, we were trudging in silence. We needed a sandwich.
When we got back to camp we had an awesome surprise. My mom had arrived in the camper for a few days. She left us a note on the table that she would be back soon, and when she arrived she told us that she had gotten the boat all ready. We were hot and ready for a swim so as soon as we devoured our lunch we headed for the boat.
Sadly all did not go as planned because the boat battery was dead. Two heavy trips and 15 total minutes attached to my car via jumper cables fixed the problem and we were on our way.

During one of my trips to the bathroom Ruben was sitting in his camp chair working on getting the campfire started, when he heard something fall from the trees. He went to look and it was half of a fish. We had a good time discussing what might make a half of a fish fall from the trees.  Lots of ideas floated around.
