Orthotics and a River Trip

Months ago when my feet started to hurt mom suggested I go see her miracle orthotic lady Kathy Sherwood to have custom inserts made for my shoes.  So today we packed up the car with a huge amount of supplies for an action packed day, and headed for Eugene.  We arrived right at 10 am and I got to show off my feet. I walked, I jogged, I shared.  I've never talked about me feet so much in my life.  I learned that my right leg is significantly shorter than my left, and Kathy recommended that I see a doctor/therapist about my back issues. I guess back or pelvis problems may cause uneven legs, or uneven legs can cause back or pelvis problems.

While she crafted my orthotics Ru and I went to Valley River Center (a mall) and Ru got a pedicure.  I thought it would be silly fun, and he had mixed feelings.  He didn't like the massage chair, but he loved the foot massage, and his gross camping feet look great now. I got my eyebrows threaded.  It was painful, but they look fantastic. We still had some time to kill before we went back to get my inserts so we got a sandwich and took a walk across the bridge into the park by the Willamette River. Ru climbed a tree, then we played a game of chess (on my phone). We've played a lot of games lately, Its a great way to spend time when you have to wait.  Ruben usually wins.

We went back to the office and I tried on my new orthotics. The right one kind of hurt the ball of my foot so Kathy modified it a bit.  They are kind of firm, but still softer than the ones my doctor gave me.  They flex, have spring, and are a little thicker than I expected.  They are built up a little on the inside to keep my feet from pronating.  She also gave me a little lift for my right shoe to make up for the shorter leg.

When we finished in Eugene we headed to Springfield and hit up Jeremy and Aerielle for a river trip. We inflated a bunch of tubes and drove up the McKenzie River to Hendricks Bridge.  We walked up a trail for a while then drifted back to the parking lot.  Repeat. We'd like to go tubing again and go further down the river, but Aerielle had a piano lesson to get to.  The water was cool but not cold, and the rides went too quickly.

After the piano lesson we went to Mezza Luna Pizzeria. The pizza was delicious, and I was pretty amazed by the selection. Eight different types of veggie pizza, and a good wheat free crust. I fell asleep with a full belly.

When we got up Jeremy had to go to work so Ru and I took off and found a diner. He ate two pancakes, two eggs, and two bacon! He says he likes diner breakfasts because of the butter on top of the pancakes. (I guess I'm stingy with the butter)
When we got back to Salem I dragged him with me to the fabric store which he says is "The most boring place on earth". I needed some odds and ends for a patchwork dress I'm making. It will look something like this but with straps.

This is the pattern I'm using. I made one years ago, but it is literally nothing but rags now.
We stopped by Nicholas's house and picked him up, made a quick stop at the butcher shop, and came home. Ru and Nicholas played with devices with screens while I cut patches. We went shopping at Winco around 6pm, and I made my favorite curry recipe for dinner. I also made Ruben some birthday cupcakes (big mom points as it was already 90 degrees in the kitchen when I turned on the oven)
