Camping at Baker Bay Day 3

Sunday June 21

I woke at 7:30, listening to the neighbors arguing about whether or not to take a shower. I wanted to holler back at them that they should take a shower because they stink, but instead I ignored them and thought about the day, finally getting up to walk the mile to the bathroom. I made my favorite banana pancakes and sausage for breakfast, then sat drinking a cup of licorice tea while Ruben tried to get me to go hiking with him. Or go out on the boat. At 10:30 the weather was still cloudy, the temperature not even 70 degrees. Perhaps a hike would be good.

We got in the car with a few ideas about where we could go, and after describing the options to him, Ruben picked Spirit Falls. He was not disappointed. The drive isn't so far from Baker Bay. We listened to rocking music and I told stories of all the times I'd camped or hiked nearby and Ruben actually listened and seemed interested. The hike to the falls was quick, and once there he immediately started jumping, climbing, and exploring. He found a baby bird on a rock in the middle of the stream below the falls. It was just standing on the rock bobbing up and down looking lost and pathetic. We left it alone and explored a log jam where we found another baby bird bobbing up and down. We were happy to see a parent bird deliver a bug to it after a while. I asked Ru if he was up for an adventure and of course he was, so we climbed up the steep slope to the top of the falls where you can stand on the rock overhang. I stayed at the top while he went further exploring up the creek. He told me later it was good I wasn't with him because I just would have been scared. By the time we got back to the main trail there were 10 people standing around so we just left. On our way back we drove through Rujada campground and Wildwood falls. Just looking for future adventure spots.

After we got back to the campsite we had the best sandwiches ever, (Bread, tomato, turkey, cheddar, avocado, lettuce, and mustard) and I finally beat Ru at Yahtzee. Jodi and I had a nice conversation while Ru used up the battery in his tablet playing Geometry Dash. Then we went out on the windsurfer board again. It was really windy and we stayed in the cove and relaxed while the people on paddleboards and kayaks fought the wind about 50 feet away. Silly paddlers. Ru tried to flip me into the water but I have excellent anti flip skills thanks to practicing so much with Betsy all those years ago. We were cold when we got out so we hit the showers then discovered the new swing in the climbing tree. So we waited for a turn and Ru swung while I soaked up some sun. Jodi joined us for a while before we went back to camp. None of us wanted to go out on mom's boat because it was ferociously windy. It just wouldn't have been fun to be pulled over that chop, or even on the water.

Fred finally made it down around 8pm for a dinner or fire roasted hot dogs and beans, and another game of Yahtzee, which he won. Then we all drifted off to bed.

We laughed so hard that they brought a tent for their car!

Can you see the bird?
