Camping at Baker Bay Day 4

Monday June 22

Fred had to work at Guitar Center so we got up and cooked breakfast at 8am. Bacon, eggs, banana pancakes, and lemonade. Ru was once again bored after breakfast so we decided to keep the theme and go for a hike. This time we went on Brice Creek Trail starting at Cedar Creek Campground. As of today Brice Creek may be the most beautiful place in the world I have ever seen.

We didn't go fast down the trail, we stopped and explored every place that we could. When we got to where the trails separates from the creek and heads up the hill Ru and I decided to head back. We went a little faster this time looking for the skinny dipping spot. Ru got in but after dunking a big toe I declined. As we were drying off a butterfly landed in Ruben's hair and was very disappointed that he was not a flower.

I love looking at water so clear that you see the waterskippers first by their shadow on the rocks below. There were lots of slugs, waterskippers, butterflies, and ladybugs out today. We kind of expected to run into Jodi, she said she may come up and sit by the river, but we didn't see her until we got back to camp, she was napping, so we didn't really see her then either.

Ru and I decided to go try out the trampoline in the swim area. Its a rental and you pay 5 bucks to jump for an hour. We swam out and the first thing I noticed was the stink. It smelled like the dried sweat of a million teenage boys. I could hardly get up due to the smell, but I did, and I jumped, and Ru jumped and we almost collided. So we took turns jumping, and it wasn't as bouncy as a regular trampoline. We played on the slide, then the piece that sticks off the side, then we just left. We got in mom's boat, and went around to the cove by our campsite. We hollered to Jodi, and she was up so she met us at the dock for a boat ride. We swam in the calm water up by the dam. The lake was so peaceful on a Monday evening after such a busy weekend, and with high wind. Today the lake and campground were nearly empty, and it was even more relaxing.

After a shower which I really needed to remove residual stink from the trampoline, I cooked my favorite curry dish for dinner. The recipe is AMAZING, and I eat it nearly every week. It tasted just as good camping.

I tried to rally Ruben into taking a walk with me to the point to watch the sunset but he wanted his tablet and his tent. He helped me was up, brushed his teeth and was in bed before it was full dark. So was Jodi, but that isn't unusual for her. Fred couldn't find a house sitter so he stayed in Salem to look out for kitty, and he was sweet and watered my lettuce.

So I was in the tent, in the comfy air bed, all cuddled up and ready to sleep before 10pm. I was thinking if I was home I would have put on a show and sewed something. Laying on my comfy mattress, listening to the water splashing against the shore, feeling the cool breeze blowing through the tent, and not hearing anyone else except occasionally Ruben moving in the tent beside mine, was much better.

I booked this campsite for four nights, but we still have food, some clean clothes, and I really don't have any obligations in Salem until Thursday, so we may stay another day. We'll see how we feel about packing up tomorrow. I can think of several good morning hikes I'd like to do.
