Lake House Day 2

What a gorgeous morning.  As soon as Ru was up he was out fishing. Blue gill and perch.  Jeremy's friend Christopher cooked pancakes and eggs for everyone (I had a smoothie) and we chatted and drank coffee. Christopher is a bridge engineer and his partner Shannon is an interior designer. Christopher's daughter Mason is the same age as Ruben and Aerielle.
Soon after breakfast we decided to go to the beach.  We packed up and went to the beach via the Hobbit Trail just north of Florence.  We walked a bit, climbed a bit, Jeremy flew a kite, I got some sun, waded, read a book... perfect. The usual beach wind picked up, but the usual cold fog was absent.
Early morning fishing
He can't resist a climbing tree. I don't know how many pictures I have of him in trees. Perhaps when he graduates high school that can be his compilation photo. 17 years of Ruben in trees.
Sliding down sand hills is a new favorite thing to do.
Jeremy showing how it's done (jumping down a sand hill)
Sunscreen and swimsuit in one.
Jeremy flying his stunt kite
Aiden washing his hair with sand.  It didn't work out as well as he'd hoped.
Blooming rhododendrons
He didn't win the kayak race, but he was a good sport about it.
Getting ready to cook razor clams and hot dogs
The lake is so beautiful, the water so clear.
For once it wasn't Ru zoning out on the computer... He only brought his tablet.
Smores kids

Exhausted and starving (but in good spirits due to the sugar infusion of marshmallows from my backpack) we left and headed for the store.  We bought most of isle 4, then we went to the seafood market for razor clams and crab. We got back home and prepared the feast, then did some more boating and fishing.  We could watch the worms wiggling and see the fish bite them. Ru never caught one large enough to think about keeping, but he caught so many he lost count.  They went through 5 dozen worms. Ruben was busy fishing but reluctantly joined Aerielle for a kayak race across the lake. Ru and I took a lovely canoe trip after dinner, then he went out with the girls on yet another boat trip.  What a trooper, the kid was on the couch exhausted by 7pm, but when we lit the fire and started smores he was right there with the rest of them, getting good and sugared up.

The lake house and dock as seen from the canoe.
