Southern Oregon Coast

Note: At least watch the video at the end.

Monday the 20th of July was all about fixing the rudders on the Hobie.  My dad was a tinkerer, and although he rigged up the boat to go fast, the modifications he made weren't always easy to fix when the broke.  Such was the case with the rudders.  An old friend Gary Hamilton came to the rescue with some stock parts from an old boat he had, and now the entire rudder assembly is working and slop free. We spent the night at Mom's house, already packed for camping on Tuesday.

Humbug Mountain State Park - Jeff and Kathy's third wedding anniversary!

I haven't spent much time on the southern Oregon coast. It was a nice drive with light traffic on a Tuesday morning.  We stopped at Umpqua Lighthouse State Park for sandwiches, then at FaceRock Creamery in Bandon for ice cream.  If you haven't been there it is THE PLACE for ice cream.
We made it to the campground with no issues other than I'm bored of my Spotify driving playlist. My first impression was ok, but when we found our campsite there was a tent in it.  After looking around some I realized there were no dividers between the campsites and that we would just have to deal with it. So we set up a ways away, (10 ft) Fortunately, our neighbors had calm quiet well behaved kids and it was never an issue.

Happy couple in the sunset
We slept well, but I woke up early to the freeway noise and squawking birds. Earplugs. I woke up next to the heat in the tent.  9am and blazing! By the time I finished cooking the bacon quite a wind had kicked up.  Ru and I went to the ranger program and learned about furs. The beaver was the softest. We came back and I took a tepid shower and braided up my hair for the Jetboat ride. After grabbing snacks we hit the road to Gold Beach.

It was too windy for a walk on the beach, so we sat by the rocks and watched the birds.

It was so windy when we got there it was hard to walk.  We got our tickets and joined the line for the 80 mile trip. I think the pictures tell most of the story.

I'm dirty, and my hair is askew, but boy was this fun.

Turn down your volume before you watch the video, its loud.

After the jet boats we were freezing. We drove back to camp with the heater on high, and even after we got back Jeff and I stayed in the car for some time soaking up the heat. Ruben had noticed the phenomenal stars so we pulled our mattress and sleeping bag out of the tent and slept under the stars, He was so tired he fell asleep immediately, but I took a little longer to drift off.  I saw a shooting star, and yes I made a wish.
The mystical fire

We drove home Thursday, but we took our time, stopping in Bandon for ice cream, and stopping for sandwiches.  We met Jeremy at Baker Bay and had a sail, then drove back to Salem.

It was weird to be home. Although I remembered where everything was, It seemed a little unfamiliar. I can't wait to leave again next week. There is enough time spent in this apartment in the winter.

Next adventure: Canterbury week 2, and... sailing.  The lake will be too low to sail soon.
