Canturbury Renaissance Faire

What a fun weekend!  Saturday Fred was still working so Ru and I went to the faire by ourselves.  We got there right on time after a hustle to get out the door in the morning. It was already getting hot so I wore my coolest garb. When we arrived we found the grounds to be mostly under trees which made it much more pleasant. As we waited to go on at 1pm I got bit by a small spider. Apart from pain and feeling weird for a few hours it didn't do any lasting damage.  There were little spiders everywhere, this one probably just got upset it was trapped inside my skirt.

We sang first by the main gate, greeting the attendees as they came in. Then we wandered and watched the joust for a while.  We rooted for the black knight, but we know that the blue knight always wins. It was so hot in the sun where they were jousting we went in search of other entertainment.

Ru enjoyed listening to the storyteller, He paid him a great compliment, that he listened for half an hour, and never got bored once.

I appreciated how they put the parents name and phone number on the kid's wrist bands.

We watched an impressive juggling demonstration/ lesson by Adam the Bawdy Juggler. This wasn't the Bawdy show. We watched that later and it made Ru blush. We also sat in the front row of the magic show. Ruben got called up to help with a trick which continues to mystify us.  It was a floating table trick. We put some money in his hat and Ru got a magic book from him. We have a suspicion the the magician and the man on stilts dressed as a jester is one and the same.

Elke and Eric
While waiting to go on we listened to Janet the Harper. She is an excellent performer, she knows great stories, and lots of pub songs in addition to pretty harp music. Elke and Eric our Faire friends were fantastically outfitted.

When we got back to Salem around 6:30 we went to Winco and stocked up on groceries. I've been following the diet plan for my Zults challenge and we needed this week's menu items.  I also got the good news that Fred would be coming home early Sunday. I spent Saturday night cooking, and Sunday morning I started on our week's supply of banana pancakes. Ruben mastered pancake cooking, he made about 20 all by himself.  I ran downtown to get Fred from the train station, did a kickboxing class, and made it home in time to change and drive the fam back out to the Faire.

Arriving home we were exhausted, but still had one more meal to cook for the week.  I started defrosting meat and we made about 100 meatballs.  At 9pm we had pasta with the most delicious meatballs I've ever had. When we went to bed, we all crashed hard.

When we woke up this morning (Monday the 21st) it was cool and lovely.  I went to the gym for a fun workout class, and Ru and Fred stayed home. Ruben had a headache from when he woke up and opted to skip his swimming lesson. After snacks I started my next sewing project, but was very disappointed 4 hours later to discover that my machine can't sew such lightweight fabric.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this. I've been doing all my sewing projects on my great grandmother's sewing machine. It stitches well on straight seams, medium weight fabric. Everything else is torture. On my wishlist is a machine that does automatic buttonholes, zig zags, and can baste. I have lost my patience with a lot of hand stitching.

Tomorrow I have a first aid/cpr class and then the rest of the week is a lovely mix of appointments and free time. I love free time.
