Salem day, Lake day

Fred (who is usually game for a car ride) was missing his Kitty so he drove with me and Ru to Salem early on Tuesday morning.  We dropped Ruben off at VBS and went around the corner to our apartment. We did what all grown ups do when the kids are away...played video games.  Not just any video game, we played Just Dance 4.  I needed a workout and it was pouring down rain.  I know its sissy not to run in the rain anyway, but dancing was a much more fun choice.  So after an hour of shaking it,  and a long abdominal workout we sat down to look at our schedule for the next few days.  I made Fred his first doctor appointment in a really long time... like as in years.  With all the ducks in a row we went to pick up Ruben and enjoyed singing along with the church songs.  Ruben seemed to enjoy himself, he had gone on a field trip to the fire station.  Its actually right across the street, but it was still cool.

For lunch we went to Olive Garden.  We had gotten a gift card from one of my good friends and coworker Stacey.  We had a HUGE lunch of really fattening food... with cheese on top.  Since we were by the mall we stopped by to see if they had the type of teacups I was looking for, they didn't.  We did however get Fred a bicycle helmet and a headlight/taillight set for his bike.  He'll be doing sound at the multicultural festival downtown in Salem this weekend and he'll need to ride home after the show since I'll be at mom's house.

Back at moms we had a light dinner and I put a coat of paint on my little bench/table. We cleaned the house a bit because the realtor was having an open house on Wednesday.

I love his skeptical eyebrow.

We brought our super vacuum.  Mom's sucks, or doesn't suck depending on  your perspective.

We needed to get the dog away from the house for the open house today (Did I mention mom is trying to sell her house?) so Ru skipped VBS and we planned a picnic. As we were about to leave this morning Ruben spied the turkeys in the yard and sneaked out to take this picture of them. It wasn't raining so we decided to spend some time at the lake.  We stopped at Subway and bought lunch on the way.  We took the dog for a swim at Baker Bay, and he swam and played fetch for almost 2 hours.  We ended up having to hide the bumpers for fear he would hurt himself with exhaustion.

Ruben saw fish jumping and decided that he wanted to look at the fish.  I had brought goggles and swimming trunks in case it got warm and he spent a total of 2 minutes in the water before he decided it was a bad idea and got dry and into his clothes again.  We had some fun though, we taught Ru to play blackjack, and we used the story dice to make up some very strange stories about John Smith.  Fred is a great storyteller.  He had us laughing like crazy.  We also tried to play badminton, but the birdie broke.

At 2:20 we headed back to mom's and as we were driving up we saw a realtor driving away, so at least somebody came while we were gone and getting chilled at the lake.

You can see how muddy the bank was from him playing there, and he was still wanting to play.
