Las Vegas to Flagstaff

We had a LONG day on the road, but now we are unwinding in our hotel suite in Flagstaff. Freddie is filling the jacuzzi tub, Ru is watching wipe out on TV and I'm having a cup of chamomile tea.

The highlight of today was the desert. It was warm, and the air so dry it stung my nose to breathe it. We saw desert with sand, shrubby desert with cows, a coyote, desert with cactus, desert with Joshua Trees, desert with hills, desert with mountains, rocky desert, and a big sand dune. There were flash flood warning signs, but I didn't see a hint of rain.

We stopped at a rest area in Nevada by area 51. There was a beef jerky/fireworks store, and a UFO curiosities shop/brothel. We didn't hang around long.

Ruben spent the last hour of our drive to Flagstaff under his blanket in the back seat. He discovered that if he rubbed his coat against the blanket he could make static sparks. I love how he is able to entertain himself.

We didn't stop at Hoover dam, but we saw some sailboats on Lake Mead. I was envious. There was good wind today.

Dinner was at a retro diner on route 66 called Mr. D'z. The milkshake was great, the cheeseburgers were good and the bathrooms were filthy. Ruben came out and said "that was disgusting" so you know that they were bad. I told him he could write the review.

Mom's car is moving right along. It's getting about 34mpg now that we are over the big mountains, and that's averaging 75 miles per hour. It's got a bit of a shimmy coasting down hills at 80 or I would have averaged faster.

When we arrived at our hotel at 9pm we found we had received a room upgrade so now we have the "Buchanan Presidential Suite" with the family sized tub, two rooms and a kitchenette. It's pretty nice. And tomorrow they have a full breakfast buffet. I'm glad we are staying for two nights.

Well tomorrow we are going to get up early to fight some crowds to see a big hole in the ground so I better get to sleep.
